Free USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning
I know many of us see books we think we just have to add to our preparedness collection, but you don't have to spend a dime to get some of the basic information for prepping. Home canning is something many of us are turning to whether we're homesteaders or backyard gardeners. I fall in the latter category myself right now and this year plan on planting a larger crop and will need to preserve some of my harvest.
There are lots of books on home canning and preserving including the classic Ball Blue Book Guide to Preservingwhich is on my list to get. But the United States Department of Agriculture has a free guide you can download through the National Center for Home Food Preservation. It includes all the instructions you need to get started canning fruit, vegetables, jams, jellies and meat as well as pickling info. The guide is separated into several .pdf documents which you can save and print out to put in a binder. To get the guide, visit this link.
