Review of SHTFM Radio - An Excellent Resource for Emergency Preparedness Information
Update 10/23/2011: The show's name has been changed to SHTF Radio.
The prepper and survivalist movement has been going strong for many years, but it has exploded as more and more people realize they may need to prepare themselves for hard times to come. Whether it's a natural disaster, country-wide economic crisis or personal economic issues such as a job loss, being prepared is simply common sense. SHTFM Radio is I believe one of the better prepper shows out there if you want down-to-earth advice on emergency preparedness.
I like this radio show because they started out covering the basics and don't treat newcomers like idiots. The episodes I've listened to so far are usually between 1-1/2 to 2 hours and are presented as discussion topics. At times the hosts and guests are talking back and forth but there have been clear themes throughout each show and the host in charge of each particular episode appears to have researched each topic and thought of questions to answer before airing. It's not just people gabbing with no direction.
Some topics SHTFM covers are how to deal with a disaster emergency, gardening and preserving your own food, first aid, emerency communications such as ham radio, homesteading and the best food storage practices. One episode covered the happy consequences of prepping and how it can improve health and overall well being.
One of my favorite hosts on the show is Herbalpagan or HP for short. I actually found out about the show through her blog Green Surviving. She's very knowledgeable about gardening and herbal medicine as well as general prepper info. But all the hosts and guests that I've heard so far on the show have been a wealth of information on their respective topics from ham radio to first aid prepping and more.
Like other shows at blogtalkradio, you have the option of listening and participating online or downloading past episodes to listen to if you can't listen to the live shows. If you want to listen to current and past episodes of SFTFM Radio, visit the link here. They have an associated discussion forum here with info available on all aspects of prepping and survivalism. If you'd like to learn the basics of prepping by people who really know what they're talking about, then SHTFM Radio is definitely worth a listen.
