Review of Salvation Army Thrift Store in Brighton, Michigan

Here is the second installment in my series of Michigan thrift store reviews.  These will mostly cover the tri-county area of Wayne, Washtenaw and Livingston counties.

The Brighton, Michigan, Salvation Army Thrift Store is large and carries clothing, furniture, toys, books, kitchen and home items including some electronics.  I did see some other kids items such as strollers and such.  The clothing is organized by type and not marked off by size.  Personally, I would prefer it organized by type and size, but I do understand thrift store limitations in this regard.

The furniture is the most expensive but from what I saw, it's mostly in really good shape.  I didn't see any pieces that would be considered curb material, i.e. something most people would just toss to the curb.

The prices are probably about 25% to 30% higher than what other thrift stores charge including other Salvation Army stores.  But there isn't much competition in Brighton, so they can get away with it and there is money out here to support the prices.  However, some of the prices I thought were a bit steep compared to new retail items in regular stores. The money goes to good causes, so I'm sure some people won't mind.  I mention prices as part of a full review just to let readers know, especially those who are on an extremely tight budget.  They might be better off buying new elsewhere as far as price.

The store is conveniently located for shoppers from Brighton, Howell and surrounding areas.  It's also close to the major shopping areas on Grand River but not in the most congested driving area.  The address is 7000 Grand River Avenue, Brighton, MI, phone number 810-534-5060.  Here is the Google Maps link of the location.  Visit the official Salvation Army website to find a location near you and learn more about the organization.
